Getting down to brass tacks, the lineup for the holiday season has taken shape. The Nook tablet, Kindle Fire, iPad 2 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 are on the block. Get a look at how they compare with each other here in this short article.

The Screen Comparison

The most important aspect of a tablet PC is the screen. Starting with the displays, we find that the iPad 2 has the largest amount of digital real estate of the pack at 9.7 inches. The Kindle Fire and Nook tablet both tie for the smallest screens at seven inches and the Samsung fills in the gap with 8.9 inches. The clarity of the screens are close, but the Samsung wins in the end with its 1280 by 800 pixels. The iPad 2 screen is clear and there are no complaints with its precision. This is in spite of the fact that it has less pixels per inch than the Nook or the Fire. The Nook tablet and the Kindle Fire are exactly the same in the resolution department with 1024 by 600 pixels of power each.

Battery Life

Battery life is another important category for these mobile devices. The winner in this category is the Nook tablet. It will last for an impressive 11.5 hours per charge. The Samsung Galaxy 8.9 and the iPad 2 are tied for second with ten hours of life per charge. The Kindle Fire comes in last with a respectable eight hours of battery life. Some of these times are variable and will depend on what the user is doing and what model of tablet is bought. The batteries on most models in the list will last less hours if videos are being watched.

Some Tablets Have Cameras And Some Do Not

Neither the Nook tablet or the Kindle Fire come with cameras. The iPad 2 has two cameras, both of which are nothing to write home about. The good news about the iPad 2 is that the user can do some video chatting with the front camera. The Samsung Galaxy 8.9 is not much better than the iPad 2 in the camera category, but it does come with a front and rear camera.

No Clear Winner In The Price Category

The winner in this case is not so clear if you compare the hardware on all models. The Kindle Fire seems to have command of the low price, but it also has little internal memory. The prices on the iPad 2 go up with the amount of internal memory. It starts out at $500 dollars with 16 gigabytes of storage. No iPad models have an external flash card slot, and neither does the Kindle Fire. The Nook tablet is $249 and has more internal memory and more RAM than the Fire. The Samsung Galaxy and the Nook are tied in RAM, but the Samsung costs $469 in its cheapest version.
