Google has released a beta version of a light-weight browser for the Windows operating system. It is called Chrome and if you visit the download page, Google states that the browser combines a minimal design with sophisticated technology to make the web faster, safer and easier.

Browser technology goodies

A browser that runs today’s complex web applications much better. Google used components from Apple’s WebKit and Mozilla’s Firefox and are making all the code for Chrome open source.

How?

  • By keeping each tab working in isolation and preventing one tab from crashing another.
  • Provide improved protection from rogue sites.
  • Improved speed and responsiveness across the board
  • Built the V8, a more powerful JavaScript engine, to power the next generation of web applications that aren’t even possible in today’s browsers.
  • Near Future
Versions for Mac and Linux are on its way.
