The dream of a small MacBook has become a reality. Today we see the unveiling of Apple’s newest notebook, the MacBook Air at MacWorld 2008. It is the world’s thinnest notebook measuring just 0.16 inches at its thinnest point. It comes with a 13.3-inch LED-backlit widescreen display, full-size keyboard, built in iSight camera and spacious trackpad with multi-touch gesture support (similar to what is available on the iPhone) such as pinch, rotate and swipe.
Other specification includes either a 1.6 GHz/1.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 4MB L2 cache, comes with standard 2GB of memory, an 80GB 1.8-inch hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi technology and Bluetooth 2.1. It also comes with 3 ports, a standard speaker/headphone minijack, a USB 2.0 port and a micro-DVI port. The notebook will be shipped with two video adapters in the box, one for VGA and one for DVi. The video-out will drive a 23-inch Apple display as a secondary display.
The only thing that is missing in the MacBook Air is an optical drive. If you need one, you will have to buy an external $99 USB SuperDrive, nicely color-matched, specifically for the MacBook Air. Price for a MacBook Air starts at $1,799 and shipping starts in a fortnight.
