Sources say that Google is considering bidding alone for the 700 MHz spectrum to launch a US wireless network. So far Google has not made any decisions if they will bid with partners. The deadline for application to become an applicant to bid is 3 December. If Google goes ahead and bid alone, chances are partners will join at a later stage, if Google wins the bid.

What is the 700 MHz spectrum? It is the spectrum used by broadcasters for transmitting analogue signals. The signals can go long distance and penetrate walls. In early 2009, broadcasters will move from transmitting analogue to digital signals and the 700 MHz spectrum will be returned.
