Google is looking to increase their online advertising business to include advertising in games. In February Google bought over in-game advertising company, AdScape for $23 million dollars as part of their plan to grow the advertising business.
In-game advertising is a growing market and consoles or computers that are connected to the Internet can get ads updated routinely during game play. Google has so far declined to reveal any specific strategy. There is great potential to market to precise demographic groups using in-game advertising as gamers focus on game screens and remember what they see. In fact recently I read that the British Intelligence used in-game advertising to put out job advertisements in games. Other game console manufacturers such as Sony and Microsoft also recognise the potential in in-game advertising. In fact Sony has created a unit to develop dynamic in-game advertising for the PlayStation platform and Microsoft went ahead and bought Massive, an in-game advertising company.
