The public in Great Britain will finally get to buy the iPhone as of 6:02pm today after the long wait. It will be sold simultaneously by Apple, O2 and CarPhoneWarehouse. The companies are anticipating long queues and have employed over 1000 extra staff across the country. It is predicted that iPhone will be the biggest selling Christmas technology gift this year although it is priced at £269 and you will be tied in on a 18-month contract on tariffs starting at £35 a month. The iPhone will have 8GB storage and a touch-sensitive mobile phone handset with wi-fi capability and an iPod media player.
I love the idea of having an integrated gadget but having the iPhone will set you back by almost £900. Is it really worth it. Some say that they will pay £269 for the gadget, get it unlocked and use a SIM card from a different provider with the iPhone. Apple says that this will invalidate the warranty and future software upgrades will cause the gadget to stop functioning. Moreover the iPhone does not come with 3G.
Is it worth it? The decision is very much a personal one. I think the iPhone’s selling point is the user experience. Its touch-sensitive interface is truly sensational. I have played with the iPod Touch and I like the user interface and the bigger screen for watching movies and music videos. On that ground, I would recommend the iPhone. Let’s see the reaction of the public come 6:02pm.
