Google has announced that they are entering the wireless sphere with their software operating system for mobile phones. It will not be until the second half of 2008 before we see Google software in mobile phones. Does this indicate that Google will take the lead in converging computing and communication? The product will be developed by several handset manufacturers including HTC, LG, Motorola and Samsung.

Google said that the phones will be made available to one of Far East’s mobile provider, China Mobile which has an enormous number of subscribers. What does that tell you? Google is reaching outside the American and European mobile user base and hopes to capture the biggest mobile user market in Asia. As for now, Google said that they will not put their brand on the mobile phones and the software will not have the Google logo. It is interesting times ahead for Google and watch this space for more updates.
